Prelude
Yusuke sauntered his way down to the end of the Hall of judgment. His old jeans and white t-shirt a grim comparison to the elegant battle outfit the red head beside him wore. The only sound that echoed across the great hall was the sound of their footsteps, for their next mission consumed their thoughts.
Koenma had informed the two teens that their mission would involve reconnaissance work, a feature in which Kurama was particularly good at. The small child had spoke of an organization that was abducting demons, and using them as prostitutes at a whore house. Normally this type of mission would not have been considered, for there were many demon whore houses, and it was a fact that demons needed sexual release more often then any human did. But what had made this particular case different, was that the demons that were being abducted were living in the human world.
“It is your job to spy on the organization and gain as much information as possible.” The child raised a hand to cut off Yusuke’s sharp retort, “To find out how they are kidnapping these demons from the human world with out our know how until now!”
Leaving Koenma’s office in a huff, neither of the teens had spoke to each other as of yet.
Idiotic, no good, toddler! Why I otta,” Yusuke stopped dead in his tracks. His vision began to blur as the colors of the Hall of Judgment began to mould into each other. He began to sway, and realized that he was going to fall. Hard.
“Yusuke!” Kurama reached out and grabbed a hold of Yusuke before he made his painful meeting with the floor. Standing the younger teen up straighter, Kurama didn’t let go as his emerald eyes searched Yusuke for any injury.
“Are you alright?” Kurama spoke directly at Yusuke. Worry clearly sounding in his angelic voice.
Moving his mouth, no sound came out. Shutting it tightly, Yusuke took in a deep breath, and then tried to speak again. This time his deep voice rang out into the hall, slicing through the silence that had once been there.
“I dunno know.” He answered truthfully. What the hell just happened? I’m not some chick that has fainting spells because they may be over worked. Kurama’s voice brought him out of his thoughts, and to focus on him.
“Do you need me to take you home so you can lie down?” Kurama offered in concern. His hands griped tighter on the Spirit Detectives shoulders, concern radiating from his emerald orbs to pierce in to confused chocolate brown.
By home, Kurama had referred to his home. That he shared with his mother, and now Yusuke. Ever since Yusuke had come to his door, bruised and hurting, telling him about how his mother was drunk and that it would be fine by morning. Kurama’s house had become a sanctuary for him. His mother insisted that he move out of his run down apartment and live with them after the many times he has shown up looking hurt and broken. He hadn’t refused.
“No.” Said Yusuke, smiling up at his companion. He really did appreciate Kurama’s concern. But all the same he rather his friends didn’t worry about him. “I believe I’ll be fine.”
Kurama gave a small nod, his mouth set in a grim line. He let go and Yusuke turned away from him to continue walking to the portal to the human world without another incident. All Kurama could do was follow and hope that this wasn’t the start of a serious problem.
For the next couple of days Yusuke had fits of light-headedness that struck without warning. Once he was walking along the sidewalk and had to lean up against a building to catch his breath. Another time during grocery shopping with Kurama in which the red head had insisted they go home immediately. And another time in the shower, in which he now had a bruise ripping up the side of his leg were he had fallen painfully upon it. Kurama had yet to find out about that incident.
The most resent was during a discussion of the organization in which they were to spy on. Kurama had rushed Yusuke up to his room, where the raven haired teen had fallen instantly asleep.
“Something is not right my friend. Not right at all.” Kurama spoke while watching his sleeping companion. Standing up, he walked towards the door and shut it quietly behind him. “This mystery needs to be solved now.”
Night had fallen, and Yusuke’s spirit energy and begun to spike up and then die down, then spike again and die down once again.
Looking up from the book he was reading, Kurama had come to a final conclusion. Yusuke was going through his mating cycle. He had all the symptoms of a demon in heat… but the problem was, Yusuke wasn’t a demon. So why was he going through a demon mating cycle?
Closing the book and setting it aside, Kurama crept quietly out of bed, down the hall and was now standing before the closed door that led to Yusuke’s bedroom. Placing a pale hand on the door knob, he turned and pushed the door open. Walking in, he stood above Yusuke’s sleeping form. Admiring how child-like and innocent the bad ass Yusuke Urameshi looked as he slumbered.
Bring up his hand, Kurama pulled out a small seed within his hair, which came from a flower called the ‘Demons Blood.’ Centering himself, he put up a kekei barrier around the room to prevent any intrusions on what may occur here tonight.
Stopping at his bed, Kurama took one last moment to admire Yusuke, then reached down and gently shook the teen awake.
“Kurama?” Yusuke questioned, rubbing the sleep from his eyes and sitting up in his bed. The sheet that covered him slid to his waist, exposing his naked torso. Kurama found himself struggling not to let his eyes roam over him.
“Yusuke, do you trust me?” Asked Kurama as he sat beside the teen on his bed.
Chocolate brown eyes blinked in confusion. Of course he trusted Kurama. He trusted the Kitsune with his life. He spoke without hesitation as the sleep began to flee his body.
“Of course.” Curious, Yusuke leaned in, his chocolate eyes speaking his questions for him.
“Good, because I think I know why you have been getting light-head. However, to be sure, I need you to hold this seed in the palm of your hand” Said Kurama.
“Why?”
“This is a seed of a plant of the Demon World.” Kurama said. “It’s called ‘Demon’s Blood.’ It will only grow if the person who holds it has Demon’s Blood in their veins.”
“You think I could be...” Yusuke asked not knowing weather Kurama had suddenly gone crazy or was playing a very sick joke.
“I don’t know Yusuke.” Kurama said apologetically. “But these frequent spells you have been having has made me wonder. I just want to make sure if my theory is correct.”
Gazing in to the mesmerizing emerald eyes, Yusuke gave a slight nod and calmly took the seed from Kurama. Both teens watched the seed intently. Then it began to blossom.
